Project overview

Delta Wye reviewed the plans, met with the engineering team, procured equipment and began the work which consisted of the following:

Removed all topsoil from the 6 acre site and store it separately from the site.  Moved the fill dirt from the site and placed this throughout the site handling compaction of all dirt moves while adding water content to the dirt.  This work lowered the elevation from the top of the fill to an elevation that ended at approximately 4 to 6 foot lower throughout the entire site.  While this was taking place we had a vibratory roller onsite compacting every bit of dirt moved and getting the site to one elevation throughout the entire 6 acres.  Surveyors and density testers were onsite recording the elevation and performing compaction testing.

When the site was level, compacted and ready for containers, Delta Wye excavated all the areas where mining containers were being set, brought these back up to grade with compaction, formed all of the blocks for concrete pads to rest the containers on.  We placed concrete in our forms and were then ready for container delivery.  Congruently we were trenching the site for conduit layout for all incoming power and power feeds to the transformers which feed the containers and also the substation feed to the switchgear.  We pulled in all the conductors in the conduit we had previously installed.

We built the switchgear onsite and terminated all wiring on the high voltage side of the switchgear and the transformers.  We built cable tray runs from the transformers to the containers and pulled that wiring into place, terminated and tested all conductors.
Delta Wye had a fencing contractor build the security fencing on the perimeter with the front gate installation to secure the site for theft.  We also installed drainage swales and an underground storm drain system for rainwater and snow melt.  We hired a crane company to off load the containers and transformers and set them on our preplaced concrete pads.  Additionally we then built roadways within the site.

After energizing the site we then ran all network wiring and fiber optics in the raceways installed for that use.  We had a seeding contractor come in and seed all the open areas and shoot a layer of straw over the top in preparation for winter.  We energized the OPS center, installed fiber optics, handled the splicing, and tested all network cabling for correct satellite link to the offices in Chicago.  Our last task was to build an acoustical fence system for noise deadening throughout the site and spreading gravel throughout the roadways and parking areas.

Delta Wye was also the coordinators for a well to be drilled, a septic system to be installed, and bollards placed around all obstructions near the roadway areas for safety.  Delta Wye worked 7500 hours on this site without a loss time accident or any damage to equipment.  We used several pieces of equipment including a Cat 320 excavator, large road grader,  two Cat dozers, several skid steers, several small excavators,  numerous loads of gravel brought in with side dump trucks, and many other pieces of equipment for handling this project.  Delta Wye learned a lot, we accomplished a lot, and we gained another valuable client to our company.
